California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR)

|
|
The California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) assists Californians with Disabilities to obtain and maintain employment. We also provide some independent living services to blind and visually impaired individuals. We are co-located at the Lake Resource Center and have a small satellite office at Clear Lake Community College. We have monthly orientations at the Lake Resource Center that explain the vocational rehabilitation process and our services. For more information about our next orientation, call our office at 263-3798. The DOR’s mission promotes employment, equality, and independence for people with disabilities. Due to funding limitations, we are subject to an Order of Selection. At this time, we are able to serve people with severe and most severe disabilities whose applications fall within certain dates. Our staff is highly trained in disability adjustment, career counseling, employment issues and accommodations for people with disabilities, among other things. We collaborate closely with the Lake County Office of Education, Lake County Mental Health, and the Lake County Career Center programs. We also work with community based organizations such as People Services, and Goodwill Industries. Our services include but are not limited to situational assessments, vocational testing, specialty medical exams, formal and vocational job training; specialized job placement, job coaching, assistive technology, and post-employment services. Transportation to and from service providers, employers, and our counselor are critical to success in our program. We can pay for bus fare or gas money, depending upon the individual’s needs and resources.
